Everyone is on Facebook. Everyone and their mother!

Hundreds of thousands of people create a Facebook profile every week. About a hundred million unique visitors hit Facebook every month. The sheer numbers are staggering.

Our customers are there. We need to be there too.

When it comes to Facebook PPC, I have been asked one question over and over. What is it that beginners and veterans alike want to know?

“Is it really possible to make money on Facebook?”

On many forums, the information on Facebook PPC advertising is quite frightening.

There is no question that Facebook advertising is daunting for new and experienced marketers alike. At Ed Dale‘s 30 Day Challenge Coming Home Seminar held here in Melbourne, Australia, (which was excellent, by the way) I was approached by MANY of the big names in affiliate marketing.

The introductions went something like this:

Me: Hi, I’m Jennifer – PpcMom.com

Big Shot Internet Marketer: PPC, huh? What kind of stuff do you run?

Me: Mostly Facebook ads.

Big Shot Internet Marketer: Really? (look of surprise) Is that working?

Me: Yes.

Big Shot Internet Marketer: I’ve heard it’s pretty tough. Can you make any money?

I have been working with the Facebook PPC platform for over 18 months. I’ve tried thousands of campaigns. Some work, most don’t. But I have a definitive answer to this question.

Yes. You can make money with Facebook advertising.

In fact, I believe you can earn MORE money advertising on Facebook than any other PPC platform.

Ed Dale announced boldly at the conclusion of his seminar that Facebook PPC is going to be huge in 2010. And, you know what? He’s right.

Advertising on Facebook PPC is huge.

It’s true.

So, what are we going to do about it?

You have two options:

1) Jump in the deep end – Go over to Facebook now and set yourself up as an advertiser. Create some ads, and see how you go. This approach can be exciting, but will cost you quite a bit of cash.

OR

2) Start with a road map – I recommend this fantastic Facebook Ads training package by Jonathan Volk that shows you step by step how to create killer Facebook PPC ads that will give you the exact insiders secrets I use every day to stay a few steps ahead of the competition.

I recommend you start with the road map and build your own portfolio using the steps Jonathan has laid out in his guide. You’ll avoid the common traps and pitfalls that cause most internet marketers to give up on Facebook PPC altogether.

As always, if you need anything or have any questions, I’m here, working away quietly in the background. Hit me up on Twitter (@PpcMom) or send me an email. I’m happy to help.

If you’ve been reading about SEO, you’ll know that Google makes regular changes to it’s algorithm. These changes will affect how your website ranks in the search engines.

I think it’s important to understand these changes, but don’t get carried away. The basics of solid SEO still apply to all of us.

Google last week announced that it had rolled out another significant change to the way it indexes websites. Without getting bogged down in the technical detail it is important that you are aware of these changes and how they are likely to impact on your website rankings in Google.

The emphasis of this most recent change is on rewarding websites that consistently publish fresh content.

In Google’s own words the changes reflect the fact that “with the advent of video, images, news and real-time updates, the average webpage is richer and more complex”. Google are claiming that these changes will result in “50% fresher results for web searches”.

Want to stay at the top of Google?

To ensure your sites remain at the top of the search engines, You can follow a few basic steps.

- Maintaining an up-to-date news area and/or blog on your website.

- Keeping content fresh and if possible, diverse (for example new articles, video, audio and maps).

- Engaging with readers via social media tools like Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn.

Is my SEO up to scratch?

Remember – the basics of SEO remain unchanged. But how can you ensure you’re doing all the right things?

Market Samurai is the answer for me. It is by far the easiest way to ensure I am targeting “buy” keywords, and producing content that can easily rank in the search engines. I really enjoy keeping track of my sites’ search engine rankings using the Rank Tracker module of Market Samurai. It’s fun to watch my sites move up the ranks!

Maintaining a balance in your work and family life is essential.

Not many people would disagree with me on that point. However, it’s the implementation of this idea that is difficult.

It is easy to lose focus when we are out of balance. The Internet marketers that I know work harder than most traditional employees. Many of us work full time jobs outside the home, then begin our internet marketing activities after hours. There is this image of the internet marketing lifestyle: fancy cars, big houses, long vacations, etc. While those benefits certainly can be a reality, the work that goes on behind the scenes is hidden to most of the world.

For those of you who work outside the home, finding a balance is important too. Life-work balance is now considered to be the second most important driver in employee attraction and commitment ahead of compensation. Importantly, people who work for companies that understand this blanace work twenty-one per cent harder.

Many of you are stay-at-home parents with young children. This situation presents unique challenges. Children have needs that are immediate and unwavering. Often I am in the middle of a webinar or conference call and I have to run to attend to a scraped knee, a crying child, or an all-out brawl over the TV remote!

We are tired!

It can be exhausting trying to accomplish everything we need (or want) to do in a 24 hour period.

The preoccupation with work-life balance is no surprise in today’s busy existence. Gone are the days when leaving the office meant actually leaving work behind. Blackberries, laptops, iPhones, Twitter and Facebook mean our availability and our access to work topics is constant. This easily gets out of control.

The consequences of all this, not surprisingly, is more stress, ill-health and exhaustion. Women especially have greater opportunity, higher levels of achievement, more influence and financial independence yet face increasing levels of depression.

Personally, I find it nearly impossible to balance my life.

I started this process a few months ago when I began thinking about balance. What do we mean by “balance”? What does it even mean to balance work and life?

Does that mean I spend equal amounts of time working and playing? Or does it mean I feel a vague sense of satisfaction with my life? I don’t know what it means for you. I do know that by my definition, my life is way out of balance.

I’m out of balance. Is that bad?

Who cares if I am out of balance? I am passionate about what I do. I love my job. I don’t want to do anything else. When I am resting, I am thinking about new marketing ideas, new ways to promote my websites, new PPC ad headlines and images to test, blog post topics, and new opportunities. Even when I am resting, my mind is racing with possibility. I am excited and pleased with my accomplishments thus far and I’m eager to get stuck into the next big project!

The other part of the story is that I am a mother of three young boys. I love my kids and I love spending time with them. I don’t want them to remember their mother as the lady who had her nose in the computer 24/7. I am a wife, a friend, a sister, and so many other things to so many people.

How am I meant to find “balance” between my excitement and passion for online marketing with the joy and love of being a good friend, wife, and mother?

I’ve done some research into this topic and I’d like to share it here with you.

7 Secrets to Balance Work Life

1) What are you passionate about?

We leak energy and become drained and frustrated when we get into a pattern of pleasing others and living in accordance with their standards rather than our own.

Are you clear of your motives and your underlying passions and purpose in life?

What are your values and are they in sync with your actions?

Are you being truly authentic and speaking your truth?

Getting clarity on what you truly want from your life is the first critical step to leading a more balanced and meaningful existence.

2) Who is influencing you?

Are you supported by your peers, colleagues and clients?

Do you have true friends who have your best interests at heart?

Are you in the right environment to best utilise your talents and skills?

Do you have a personal development plan or life/business coach to provide objective guidance?

3) What are you saying to yourself?

There is substantial evidence that the way we think can have a profound and a lasting effect on our mood and motivation levels. If you are one of life’s pessimists then you will need to re-program your thoughts to expect the best – not the worst - and to swap those habits for more encouraging self talk. Focus on what has been going well rather than how far you are from your goals. See obstacles as opportunities, remain flexible and open to possibilities. Recognising and being grateful for what you have is a great way of getting things in perspective.

4) Listen to your body

Self care is essential to restore and maintain well-being and balance

Are you sleeping well?

What are your eating habits?

How would you describe your energy levels?

Taking time to exercise and look after yourself is an essential component to balanced living.Listen to your intuition as it never lets us down and provides the subtle nudges to move us in the direction that is right for us.

5) Set healthy boundaries

Real life and business can be integrated but that does not mean you need to give up your privacy. You need boundaries so you can feel generous without feeling depleted and available without feeling drained.

One trick that works for me is to get a kitchen timer and use it to set limits for myself. On the weekends, I will set the timer for 45 minutes and I will work to accomplish as much as possible during that time. When the timer rings, I go and play with my kids, bake a cake, do something fun. Then I can go back to work knowing that I have spent some quality time with my family, building memories to last a lifetime.

6) “Start to Profit”

My friend and mentor, Lynn Terry, has a catch phrase “From Start to Profit” which means to stick with one idea until it makes a profit. Too often we start projects and don’t finish them. This leaves us with an uneasy feeling that we have so many projects on the go and none of them are near completion. The stress this creates can be enormous. Instead, take Lynn’s advice and focus on one project at a time. Then follow that project through to completion. This takes patience and tenacity, but it’s worth it in the long run.

7) Keep the end in mind

Although this may seem morbid, it has helped me keep my priorities straight many times. Keep the end in mind. What do you want to be remembered for? Do you want to be the guy/girl who made the most money? Had the best car? Built the best website?

Clearly identify what your purpose is, and follow that purpose.

When I am on track and aligned with my purpose, I have more energy, more enthusiasm, more positivitiy than I could possibly use. It’s a great feeling to be “in the zone”! Try to get yourself in the zone and stay there, loving life, working hard towards your goals, and living with joy.

Does this mean there is no way to balance work and life? Maybe a better phrase is to “integrate” your work with your life.

That’s the way I see it. What about you? Add to the discussion in the section below…

Facebook provides a lot of fantastic opportunities for online marketers, but there are also a lot of pitfalls. Here are some guidelines that can help you get started with Facebook PPC Advertising.

We can get clicks starting at 10 cents per click on Facebook. Those of you who were around in the early days of Google AdWords will understand just how profitable that can be. To our great advantage there is very little competition now and we can get high quality traffic if we do some research.

Target keywords that people use to describe themselves

With Facebook PPC advertising, you can target very specific keywords. However, these are not the same kind of keywords you’d use in Google AdWords campaigns. With Facebook, you need to consider the words people use to describe themselves, their interests and their hobbies. Instead of targeting a search term, you’re going to be using descriptive terms. In my experience, people search Google to solve a problem. Whereas people browse Facebook to check out Facebook pages and to mingle with friends online. This is an important distinction and must be considered when choosing keywords to target for your campaigns.

To read more on this topic: Pre-Qualify Clicks on Facebook

A picture is worth a thousand words

Your image is everything with Facebook PPC advertising. Select 4 or 5 good images that grab your attention and are related (even vaguely) to your topic. Ensure there are people in your image if possible. Of course, you’ll need to test all different kinds of images to see what converts best for you, but one thing I can say is that I try to use people in my ads. More specifically, I’ve found images of smiling, happy women to be very successful for most campaigns I’ve run.

Understand the rules of the game

Be careful. Follow the rules. Understand the Facebook terms and conditions and follow them or your account will be banned. I’m not saying this just to scare you. I want you to know that Facebook are very serious about breaches of their terms. To be successful on Facebook we must follow the rules they have set and be very aware they are very different than Google. The good news is that if you follow the rules, you can design great ads that will draw high quality customers to your offer/product/service.

Facebook’s advertising rules are different than Google’s. Facebook requires ads to be engaging but not too slick, sexy, or misleading. Your ad text cannot contain trademarked terms or be too shocking or offensive. Facebook requires that we place an image on all ads, and you can use text in your image. So, get creative with Photoshop if you can.

Click-thru rate is king with Facebook PPC

CTR (Click thru rate) is king on Facebook PPC. They won’t allow an ad with a low CTR to run on their site for very long. It’s in our best interest to test many different versions of our ads, images, and headline till we find a few that convert like gangbusters. If your CTR can stay high, you’re going to do well. If not, they will disable your ad without warning.

Facebook requires that the ads always remain relevant and interesting to their viewers. If your CTR is not as high as needed after 2 days look closely at the keywords used in your ad to determine if they are really relevant, compelling and not offensive in anyway. I suggest you get creative with your ad copy and your keywords. Think outside the box and come up with some unique combinations to get a killer ad. It’s fun once you get going!

Tips to profit with killer ad copy

Try writing your headlines in the form of a question. Perhaps you can make a bold statement. Whatever your headline, be sure it grabs the reader’s attention quickly so they read the rest of your ad copy and click through to your landing page.

Use an image that tells a story and grabs their attention. If you’re using a photo of someone, try using a smiling face or your image should represent your message and have text on it.

Avoid these mistakes & save time

You can’t use all capital letters or promise “free” stuff when there isn’t anything free. Be careful with email and zip submit offers – Facebook are now frowning on the promotion of these. When you’re writing headlines and ad copy, remember to use upper and lower case letters and be careful with your spelling. Avoid using slang, abbreviations or code words. Facebook does not permit the use of irrelevant images, symbols or anything offensive.

Watch it or lose it

Facebook PPC is risky and you have the potential to lose all your money very quickly. Be smart and follow these tips carefully. Once you’ve got your ads all set up, you absolutely must watch your campaigns very closely. Set very low daily budgets and don’t leave your computer when you’re testing a new campaign. Traffic comes through extremely fast and before you know it, your budget has been spent.

Facebook PPC Advertising is a dangerous, but exciting game and you’ve got to take it seriously to make money. I got started with Facebook PPC by learning the step by step methods being taught right now at Affiliit – an excellent training forum. I recommend you go there if you want to learn more.

Websites are important part of an internet business and, of course, if you want to make money online, you may need to get yourself a website. One good place to search for websites for sale is Flippa.

(**Please note, the links in this post to Flippa.com are not affliate links**)

Profit from unfinished projects.

I have started many projects over the past year, and most of them were never finished. I am pretty sure this happens with a lot of internet marketers, so I hope I’m not alone. One project I started involved an iPod review site. I was pretty excited about it at the beginning and I spent a lot of time customizing the site, writing articles, getting links, etc.

But then, other things came along, and I lost focus. I started up another project, and then another. Does this happen to you too? My beloved iPod site drifted to the back burner. Luckily, I had done enough work on it that it began to rank highly in the search engines and earn some money through the Google AdSense program & the Amazon Associates program.

Flippa.com provides a safe, secure place to buy and sell websites.

Now, the time has come for me to let go of my iPod review site. The best place to sell your website is most certainly Flippa.com. Their system makes it safe and easy for buyers and sellers to transact securely.

If you haven’t checked it out, I encourage you to do so. Buying and selling websites is a profitable venture that you can engage online. With so many people doing business online, you can also invest on buying underdeveloped websites, enhance them and sell them. Online real estate is becoming more valuable as time goes on.

If you have some web design skills or even some programming skills, you can enhance the look of a website, make it appealing to potential buyers and make money when you sell it. Even with a small budget, you can take advantage of this moneymaking opportunity.

My site just sold for $380.

I’ve listed my iPod review site and I was so nervous. I feel close to my sites because I’ve spent so much time working on them. But, was I able to prove that I had spent time on it?

Some things that potential buyers are looking for are traffic, domain age, backlinks, and income. I’m learning that a big key to success is being able to provide documented proof of these 4 key factors. I wasn’t keeping track of these things for my iPod site and I could not provide proof. So I highly recommend to anyone considering selling a website at Flippa to document your stats before listing. It will have a big impact on the final purchase price.

Save time and buy an established website.

There are a lot of fantastic websites that you can buy. Every day people are selling high quality blogs, review sites, forums, job boards, social networking sites and established online businesses. If you are looking to enter a niche, or grow your presence in a niche, you’d be smart to check Flippa and see if there is an established site for sale. Buy that site and you have instantly improved your chances of success at market leadership.

Earn extra cash by flipping websites.

One thing that you can do to make the most out of buying and selling websites is to buy cheap sites, improve them with a little web designing and optimization and selling it at a higher price. Like selling real estate properties, improving the site to make it more appealing to clients in terms of design and being search engine friendly, can indeed help a lot in reselling it at a good price.

You can make more profits selling websites if you choose a good niche or topic. Your choice is important because the ‘money-making ability’ of your site can depend on the market. High-paying niches are those that attract high-paying ads. I recommend you use Market Samurai to determine the potential value of a niche, keyword phrase, or a domain name.

When it comes to design and appeal, you can make the site more appealing to buyers simply by adding pictures, a custom header graphic, and a new premium wordpress theme. This can make your site much more valuable to buyers.

Selling websites is easy.

I know there are a lot of people like me out there. You had a great idea, deicded to buy a domain name, and then you let it sit there for ages. If you have unused domain names or unloved blogs taking up space in your portfolio, consider creating sites and selling them with Flippa. Research shows that by simply installing WordPress and adding a few unique posts, you can double or triple the value of a domain name. Now, I’m not saying that simply selling domain names isn’t profitable. I am not a “domainer”. But if you have sites doing nothing, it can’t hurt you to try selling one or two for some extra cash.

When I started tweeting about my website sale, many people commented that they were eager to try selling a site of their own. If this is your situation, I encourage you to go for it. You really have nothing to lose. It’s a fun process & it only costs $19 to list your site for sale at Flippa. I paid for a few “featured listing” upgrades and that was an additional cost. Overall, I think the upgrades were worth the investment. I got a lot of traffic to my auction, and ended up with a good result.

Have you bought or sold a website? What has been your experience?

Do you ever feel like that’s how some marketers approach social media?

It feels almost like a threat – Like my page – or else! What a strange way to welcome new visitors to your inner-circle….

For the purposes of this discussion, I am talking about Facebook marketing in general. We’re discussing Facebook Pages and not Facebook PPC. And I’m not going to talk about getting “Fans” or “Followers” just for the sake of numbers. I believe the value is not in the number of Followers you have. Instead, value is found in the quality and quantity of interactions. But that’s an entirely different topic altogether.

Today we’re talking Facebook Fan Pages – and why they’re essential for online marketers. You may be wondering: Do I need a Facebook Page?

Facebook fan pages are essential.

I know many of you cringe when you hear “Facebook Advertising” and you instantly doubt how you could possibly make any money through Facebook. I think it’s very important to realize one major point:

It doesn’t matter what YOU think of Facebook.

Your customers are already there.

So, get over it. Your customers are visiting Facebook every day. They are being confronted with other people’s Facebook Pages and they are buying products promoted by other marketers. If you’re not there, you’re losing out. It’s that simple.

Facebook Fan Pages are mini-websites targeted for your readers.

Think of a Facebook page like any other web page. Its almost like a giant web ad. Landing pages should each serve one purpose – and one purpose only.

If you go to the average Facebook Fan Page, you will see it’s not ideal for internet marketing purposes. There are links all over the page. It’s scattered and messy.

Focus on one purpose and one purpose only.

If you can create a custom “Welcome” page for your new visitors, you instantly limit the number of distractions. There is only one option – “Like”. A custom Facebook landing page can make it clear to new visitors that you have something of value to offer them.

“Like” me – or else!

When a new Fan arrives at a fan page wall, there’s a chance that the discussion on the wall is about something they’re not interested in.

If this is the Fan’s first exposure to your fan page, it may be enough for them to decide not to become a fan and wander away. Eek!

Grab their attention before they click that “back” button!

However, if a custom landing tab highlights something for each of your different user segments, then users will realize what you and your fan page have to offer them. That way they won’t be discouraged if what they’re looking for isn’t the most recent topic of discussion on the wall, and they’re much more likely to become a fan.

Once they become a fan, they’ll begin getting your updates, you can interact with them, and they can interact with one another. You’re one step closer to building a targeted community of enthusiastic fans in your niche!

How do I customize my Facebook Page?

Now, I can’t answer this question for you. As most of you know, I am technically challenged. Leigh of Advanced Fan Page Solutions worked her magic on the PpcMom Facebook Page. I love what she’s done with it. There is NO way I could do that myself. HTML and CSS are not my strong point.

I know there are many of you who know how to do this. Do you have any tips, hints, wisdom you can share with us?

To make real money online, it is important to learn Internet marketing. Of course there are thousands of scammers out there who will promise you the world – quick cash, instant millions, retire in 3 months, blah blah blah. But the truth is that anyone who invests the time to learn Internet marketing does not learn the proper skills from a get rich quick scheme. It most certainly pays to invest the time into learning the basics from the ground up.

I love what I do. I am passionate about Internet marketing and helping others learn internet marketing. Here are some pretty basic steps to getting yourself on track as an Internet Marketer. Remember: I am here to help you along the way. You can find me on Twitter (@PpcMom) or on my Facebook Page almost every day.

Learn Internet Marketing Step One: Find a Good Training Program

You need to learn Internet marketing skills through a good training program.

I know a lot of people say they learned everything on their own and they didn’t need a training program. That’s cool – and that obviously worked for them. But it didn’t work for me. I love being a part of a larger group – learning together, and being able to ask questions as we go along.

Here at PpcMom.com I actively promote and support both Affiliit.com and Ppc-Coach.com as fantastic training programs. If you have any questions about either of these reputable sites, I am happy to help you decide which (if any) of these may suit your needs.

**Please note: I will earn a small commission if you use any of the links on this site to join Ppc-Coach or Affilit**

I suggest you find a training program that will teach you the best practice methods of generating traffic and how to convert that traffic into sales. This should include learning SEO techniques as well as how to use PPC effectively.

When you learn Internet marketing through a legitimate training forum, you gain the skills & the knowledge you need to expand your web presence, build an online business, and earn a solid living online. Knowledge is power.

Learn Internet Marketing Step Two: Learn How to Get Traffic

The first thing you need to learn in Internet marketing is how to drive traffic to your offer. Notice: I did not say that you have to learn how to build a website. In fact, I earned many thousands of dollars before I ever had a website of my own – and you can do it too. Traffic is king.

There are two main ways to get traffic: PPC (Pay Per Click Ads) and SEO (Search Engine Optimization).

An experienced Internet marketer knows how to drive pay per click traffic to products and services. And it’s even better if you know how to get free traffic. This can take a long time to learn, but it’s worth it in the long run. SEO takes a great amount of skill to master, but a beginner can see quick results in a matter of days with the right advice.

I strongly advise new internet marketers to learn both PPC and SEO techniques. PPC is great for instant income. SEO can provide a longer term stable income stream.

Learn Internet Marketing Step Three: Work Hard

This is NOT a get rich quick scheme. Internet marketing is a legitimate business model and you can earn a full time living if you follow a step by step plan and work hard. Now, when I say “work hard”, I really just mean that you have to love it. I eat, sleep, and breathe internet marketing, and I have for over 18 months now. I truly love what I do and I just can’t seem to stop myself from working. You’ve got to find this passion somewhere inside of you. Find that passion & ignite it.

To become successful online, you not only need to learn Internet marketing, but you need to dive in to the advanced strategies as well. There are many different strategies out there to make money online such as AdSense, AdWords, Facebook PPC, Facebook Pages, SEO, PPV ads, article marketing, setting up a blog, keyword research, finding a good niche to market, building a list of email subscribers, writing e-books and short reports, and taking advantage of viral marketing.

These are just some of the many techniques you will encounter on your journey to learn internet marketing. Thank you for letting me be a part of it!

Focus on a success plan. Invest in your own learning. Never give up.

Facebook Fan pages are a great way to get in touch with your customers, clients, and readers.

Until this week, I hadn’t given much thought to my Facebook Page. In fact, my PpcMom Facebook page sat there, alone, and neglected for months. The truth is that I had no idea what to do with it.

The number of Facebook users grows every day. In fact, Facebook is now more popular than Google. Wow.

If you don’t already have a Facebook Fan page, what are you waiting for? Get yourself a page today. It’s free and easy to do. Once you have your page, you need to actively promote it.

Here are some tips to promote your Facebook Page:

1) Invite People

I know this might seem like common sense, but many people overlook this basic step. Invite your friends, readers of your blog, Twitter followers, etc. This is the easiest and fastest way to jump-start your page fan base.

2) Facebook Search

The updated Facebook Search feature gives you the option to view conversations of your friends and status updates that you may have missed. You may discover some people are talking about your product or service. I’ve found several friends this way.

3) Advertise With Social Ads

Social Ads provide advertisements alongside your Facebook sidebar that encourage people to visit your Facebook Page. It is possible to tailor ads to your friends and their interests, which makes it more appealing for them to take action. Thsi option does cost a bit of money, but you can set your budget. I know several people who have had great success with this option. Remember to use keywords specific to your product or service.

4) Interact

Interact with the people who “Like” you already. The more interactive you are, the more people will feel encouraged to comment. These comments appear in their personal News Feed, and will be visible to their friends. I have “Liked” many pages because my friends have commented on them. Interaction is important.

5) Personalize Your Fan Page

There are many ways to customize your Facebook Page and I am in the process of doing this for PpcMom. The team over at Promote My Fan Page are experts at making your page stand out from the crowd.
