Polls for CPA Offers Part 3

By PPC Mom

Welcome back readers! Welcome to Part 3 of Polls for CPA Offers. This is the inside scoop – nitty gritty detail – on how I am earning a profit every day from polls. I hope it helps you!

In case you missed the previous entries in this series, you can read Polls for CPA Offers Part 1 here and Polls for CPA Offers Part 2 here.

Here is an overview of PPC Mom’s Poll Process:

  • Research hot poll topics and choose 4 or 5 topics
  • Generate a list of approx 500 kw for each topic (use Google’s free kw tool to help you)
  • Write 3-4 kick ass poll questions per topic (approx 15 poll questions) using the guidelines in Part 2
  • Grab at least 5 solid email submit offers from the networks – ask your AM which are performing best
  • Create these 15 polls using the awesome and  free -> Word Press Easy Polls or similar software

How to test your polls and start making $$?

  1. Launch at least one general poll topic per day (3-4 polls on the same topic, but with different questions)
  2. Assign one email submit offer to each poll (3-4 different offers)
  3. Set a very small campaign budget ($10 each poll)
  4. Launch on content network only
  5. Set CPC at a low level (right now I am using .10 to start)
  6. Watch very carefully and PAUSE your campaigns after approx 30 clicks.

What to do after 30 clicks?

Assess each poll individually. There are so many factors you need to assess. It sounds like a lot now, but once you get the hang of this, it becomes second nature. Practice is the key!

Initially, in this early stage, you are looking for – an offer that converts (above 10%), a high ad CTR (above .20), a low CPC (below .10), and high impressions.

If you have all of this criteria met – you should have made a profit. Let that poll run  – set a higher campaign budget and enjoy your earnings! ;)

If not – then it’s time to try again.  If I have at least one offer that converts at or above 10% – I switch that offer to all of my polls and watch them for another 30 clicks. If none of the offers convert that high, I switch them all around, rotating new offers in until I find one that does. Check your ad copy and poll question – if you’re sure they’re interesting enough, then test your results by rotating the offers.

How to judge a successful poll?

This is where things get a little tricky. No one can predict which polls will make money – or at least I can’t! Only you will know for sure if your poll is a success or not. You can follow PPC Mom’s guidelines, but in the end you are only going to really learn by trial and error yourself. With a little experience, you’ll start to be able to tell right away which polls have potential and which do not.

Keep testing in small doses like this until you find a combination that works and makes you a profit! If you cannot get a good result from your poll after testing and tweaking things a little, chances are it’s a dud.

Just so you know, I “kill” about 70% of the polls I create. When I first started I “killed” 19 out of 20 polls I created. So don’t spend too much time fussing over them. Just keep creating new polls, testing, deleting, and creating new polls, and you’ll get better and better at it.

“Can I really make $100 per day with polls?”

I get asked this question all the time. Yes! Polls can be a good source of profit once you get the hang of it. Yes – it is a lot of work to create a whole bunch of polls every day. Yes – it is annoying that 90% of your polls won’t make any money.

Do you want to make money with polls? Well, then you have to do the work.  It is possible to earn $100 per day from polls alone. My average poll profit is about $20. So you can estimate earnings between $10-$30 per successful poll, per day if you get it right. Create lots of polls, and you multiply your earnings!

Now – I am sure I have left some things out. There is just SO much to cover! This is meant to be an interactive discussion here, so please, comment below – questions, answers, if you agree or disagree, whatever! ;) I look forward to hearing from you!

"Assign one email submit offer to each poll (3-4 different offers)" . How can i find 3-4 different offers having same topic on one cpa network? I have an account with cpaempire. Normally, they have one offer per topic.
  • "an offer that converts (above 10%), a high ad CTR (above .20), a low CPC (below .10), and high impressions."

Hmm...I've never had an email submit in my entire life convert above 10% for polls. So I don't know what to do about that. I've also never had a poll get a CTR above .03%. Too many keywords? I dont' know. .10 CPC is very doable, usually I'm around .08.

So my biggest problems are finding offers that convert. I have about a 90% click thru rate to the offer, but I get about 2 conversions per 30 clicks. Don't know why.
  • PpcJen
Hi Jeff - Thanks for checking back in! If your offer converts and your campaign is profitable, then it doesn't matter what the conversion rate is. I put those numbers in there because that is what I am looking for.

The problems you mention are also problems for me - and most people, I believe. A few months ago I had to pause all of my polls because I couldn't find offers that were profitable. Sounds like finding offers that convert is the challenge for most of us. Ah, the joys of internet marketing!
  • Tammy
Awesome, Jen. I'm excited to run polls again. (I just did it this morning, but after reading your article, I get excited to do again right at this moment). Hope you don't mind I bookmark this page, so that I can read it everyday when I wake up. :D

Good read...I will gave this a go again. Just never been very successful running polls or just didn't try hard enough. It looks like there is a lot of monitoring with running multiple polls, do you pause successful polls at certain time of the day or when you're away?
  • PPC Mom
Hi again! You know, there isn't that much monitoring once you identify a poll combination that works (ad, question, image, offer). If you have all of those working well, and you're making a profit, there really is no more work to do. So, I don't pause my polls that have been running successfully. I check on them each day to make sure the offers are still converting well. If the offers change, or scrub, I switch out the offer and test it for another 30 clicks. Having said that, there have been days where I have had to pause ALL of my polls because none of the offers converted. Luckily, I found a whole new stack of offers and those have been working really well. Good luck to you!

Awesome post PPC Mom! Just a question about your bidding strategy. You said you set it at $0.10 initially. Do you play around with the bids at all once your poll gets going? Or do you just leave it as is the whole time?
  • PPC Mom
Good question! Perhaps bidding and long term campaign management is a good topic for another blog post Polls for CPA Offers part 4!? :) I start my polls bidding at .10 and lower them slowly over time. It really depends on your keywords, traffic volumes, and your ROI. If you are barely profiting, certainly look at lowering your CPC .02 cents at a time. I hardly ever need to increase the bid above .10 though. You need to keep your CPC as low as possible to be profitable on the small payouts with email submits. Yep! There is a LOT of information to cover on this topic! Test your campaigns and lower your CPC slowly.
  • PPC Mom
Yes - I use Yahoo content network. If you are using Google, it is especially important to use only the content network. Polls can work on the Yahoo search network, and if I can get very cheap clicks, sometimes I will try the search network. But never with Google. Search CPC is very high - and for a poll, it will be tough to be profitable. Content network clicks are generally cheaper.
Re: 30 clicks - I mean 30 clicks to the ad. After 30 clicks on the ad, I re-evaluate and switch offers around.
  • thanks mom! Now I have more questions... then I'll start tomorrow. :)

"Launch on content network only" - you mean Yahoo's content network?

also when you say 30 clicks... do you mean 30 clicks to the offer or 30 clicks to the LP?
  • PPC Mom
Hello Jeff! You know, the G slap is a real threat, and for that reason, I avoid G. I don't use them anymore. If you absolutely MUST use them, you need to keep the "slap" in the back of your mind. A few things you can do are to add relevant content to your site, link to your polls from other sites or your blog, or using other SEO techniques to extend the life of your poll on G. I have had successful polls run for weeks at a time on Google, Yahoo, and MSN. So I wouldn't let the fear of a "slap" hold you back from launching anything. But you should know that it is a very real possibility. Good luck with it!
  • Mom, Do you worry about the dreaded G slap or account banning or anything of that nature when you're running polls? That's one of my bigger worries.... maybe I'm being paranoid.

Oh and great post makes this Jeff want to try a poll (or 20) again too...

    Thanks Mom. :)
  • PPC Mom
Thanks for the feedback Jeff! Glad you've found it helpful. Polls are fun once you get the hang of it. I enjoy writing the poll questions! Coming up with wild and crazy things for people to vote on is good fun. :)
    Good luck with your polls!
  • Great post, makes me want to try polls again. 4 poll questions per topic sounds like a plan :)
    Will get on it!
