internet marketing toolsIt’s time for a little discussion – lets talk Internet Marketing tools.

Over in the forums there’s been a lot of talk about different tools, software, applications, and plugins that helps us improve our results as internet marketers. I’m loving reading the different opinions and experiences and thought it’d be a good question to open up to the wider community – what are your favorite tools?

I suspect most of us will probably be DYING to include affiliate links, but please control yourselves and refrain from posting links.

Perhaps it’s a keyword research tool, perhaps a site builder, perhaps a plugin for your blog, or some sort of cloaking software – what do you love? Anything goes! List your 3 favorite tools – but limit it to three! ;)

Facebook Advertising

Facebook Advertising

I love Facebook advertising!

Of course, it is challenging, expensive, volatile, and short term. And I absolutely love the thrill of it!

The reason I am so excited about it today is because I have been testing a set of ads in a niche for over a week. FINALLY it’s working!! And once you find something that works on Facebook, it usually works in a big way. And I tend to get excited about stuff – that’s just how I am.

Great Offer + Unique Image + Headline = $$$$$$ = A Happy Jen ;)

Now, before you get too excited, and run off to start your first advertising campaign on Facebook, there are several things you should know.

  1. RESEARCH – It pays to learn strategies from someone who is experienced with FB ads. Several forums now have “facebook” areas specifically for this purpose. Get into these forums, and read everything you can get your hands on re: facebook advertising and how to create a killer ad. I have been working my tail off reading the forums at Affiliit and PPC Coach for every scrap of information I can find. If you are new to this, I highly recommend you do your research before spending a dime.
  2. GET CASHED UP – You need money to test offers. It will take you some time and money to test your ads, images, and offers. So be prepared. Facebook will charge your credit card every day for your advertising spend. Be sure you are with a good CPA Network who can pay you quickly. Weekly wires are a must for me.
  3. MARKETING - Think like your target audience and decide what kind of Headline/Image/Offer would grab their attention. You need to be creative on FB. If you do what everyone else is doing, you will fail.
  4. DEMOGRAPHICS – Use keywords, age, gender, location, sexual preference, marital status, employer to pre-qualify your audience and target them specifically. Keywords here are not the same as they are in AdWords. You need to use kw that people might add to their profile to explain their interests.
  5. BUDGET – Set a low budget for each campaign in the testing phase. Keep a very close eye on your campaigns. $$$ flies out the door with high CPCs and HUGE traffic volumes. Remember: Ads will still get approved if you pause them. So pause your campaigns once you create them. Then wait for approval (which can take 24 hours). Then unpause and watch carefully.
  6. TRACK – Watch your conversions at the network (or tracking). Facebook have a very long delay. You want to be sure conversions are flying IN faster than the advertising spend is flying OUT.
  7. THE BIG SECRET – Ha!  There is no big secret. You just have to work – test – fail – be creative – and test again. Every affiliate who banks on Facebook has followed this process. We are not holding out on you. There really is no secret. Hard work is my secret – if anything. Boring, I know, but it’s the truth.
  8. BE PREPARED TO FIGHT – This is bloody hard work. You will lose money. Most of your ads won’t work. You will get frustrated. You might even want to give up. If you don’t have a fighting spirit, I don’t recommend Facebook advertising. It’s tough and you will have to fight. No one is going to hand you anything on a silver platter. You can here to make money online, and Facebook is a great tool for that.  So -  if you ARE a fighter – get in there and give it a go!

stepsI was reading another great blog post by ppc.bz and it got me thinking….Affiliates get lazy and we need to fight through failure. There are ups and downs, but enough of the whining, people!

I am guilty of complaining. I’m sure we’ve all done it. But really, it’s time to move on.

Ever since I started working online earlier this year, I have come across experienced and talented people who complain that things aren’t working for them. If I had listened to these people back then, I probably never would have persevered through those early days/weeks. Now I understand why things don’t work for these affiliates – they don’t follow the steps. They think they know better.

Luckily, I have experienced enough of my own success to know that this business does work – if you work it. From my own experience I know that if you follow the steps outlined, eventually, they work. Believe it or not, some people do know what they are talking about. :)

Internet marketers with experience in other areas sometimes approach this business and the training tutorials with skepticism and doubt. Perhaps they think that they know better? They prefer to do things their way. Sometimes they skip steps or barrel ahead thinking they can take a short cut. That’s okay – if things work out for you. But if you’re not successful, maybe its worth going back to the beginning and following the steps?

When you are starting out, it pays to learn the foundation first, then build up from there. You can’t expect to walk onto a baseball diamond and play in the major leagues on your first day. We all start out in little league and work our way up.

Losing money on campaigns is annoying and stressful for all of us. If it’s becoming a pattern for you – change it!  Go back to the beginning and follow the steps outlined. Don’t skip over parts, don’t jump ahead, don’t take short cuts.

Follow the steps and you will find success.

keyboardI am an extrovert. I love being with people. All of a sudden, I’ve found myself in the most introverted business in the world (maybe?). Either way, this job can be lonely. We’re all sitting in our homes, in different countries, scattered around the globe, staring at our computer screens for hours upon hours every day. It’s easy to become disconnected, demotivated, or bored. What can we do about it?

Okay, so they’re not “Jedi Mind Tricks” but here are a few things you can do when you’re feeling annoyed, frustrated, or overwhelmed with things.

These 5 little steps help me stay motivated:

  1. Focus on the positive – Getting bogged down in negativity will not help you. Avoid it at all costs. Focus instead on possibilities, potential, and opportunity.
  2. Network with other internet marketers – Make friends, get involved in forums, answer some questions for newbies, read and post on IM blogs.
  3. Learn something new – if you’re into PPC, try SEO. If you’re stuck on Facebook, try Yahoo for a change. Step out of your comfort zone and shake it up a bit.
  4. Look how far you’ve come – Chances are you’re a long way from where you started, and you’ve learned a lot. Give yourself credit for your accomplishments.
  5. Set an exciting and challenging goal for yourself – It should be something exciting, yet achievable within a relatively short period. Get excited about it!

These simple tricks can be used to brighten an otherwise gloomy perspective.

Good luck to you! Keep things fresh, new and excting! ;)
